Freedom Files

This is my pursuit of freedom. I am a wife to the most amazing guy EVER!, mother of four, with a new one arriving in May. We homeschool, own a business, and love Jesus.

Weekend

Saturday was Cole's birthday party. We awoke to a very sunny day. It was also -30 with the windchill. So we prayed our way through the morning in hopes that God would show us some mercy and warm it up a bit. He did! By the time everyone started to arrive around 1:30, it was about -7 and the wind had died way down.

Greg put in so much time on the ice. He blew the snow off a huge patch, then scraped and then...he rented a pump, cut a hole in the ice, and flooded it. He was out there until after 11:30 Friday night. By the time he came in, his snow pant legs were ice blocks. What a man! He sure loves making things fun for his family.

Cole was thrilled with his day. I made him a Lightning McQueen birthday cake. I've done lame decorated cakes before. This was my first serious one. I even rented a pan from Bulk Barn! So he was so excited about his cake. I'll post a picture when I get them uploaded.

Speaking of which. We have our digital camera back. We had lent it to someone else for over a year, because we have a video and regular 35 mm camera. They had nothing. At one point we were thinking we were going to get another one from someone else, but that didn't work out, so we were so happy to know they didn't need ours anymore.

Am making an extensive wish list for the house. Some of it is projects, some of it is accessories, some of it is furniture, and some of it is renovations. We'll be busy for a few years I think!

I'm so tired of tired...

I'm told once all the kids are grown and gone, I'll have lots of time to catch up on my sleep. What I'd really like is for them to slow down on their growing a bit, while still getting lots of rest, and completely all my to-do lists every day.

Since this is impossible, I'll just keep plugging away at it. I sure don't want to wish them grown up too fast, just so's I can get some sleep.

Happy 7th Birthday, Cole! We are so proud of you!

Things You Shouldn't Say to a Mom of Four (and pregnant) at the Grocery Store!

Never, EVER point out to me what my kids are lacking. ie: if my baby refuses to wear boots or socks. It is NOT helpful for you to point out to me that it is -13 out and he/she SHOULD HAVE HIS/HER FEET covered. Do you wish me to spend three hours at the grocery store, 2&1/2 of them being me fighting to keep said footwear on said child?

"Wow, you have your hands full!" Stating the obvious is also not helpful, especially when I have THAT look on my face.

And finally, if you happen to be on duty for parcel pickup, and while I'm trying to juggle and rearrange the whole of my vehicle's interior to find a landing strip for the mountain of groceries, DO NOT say to me, "Well, I guess next time you'll re-think bringing all your kids with you, huh?"

I really don't enjoy....

...typing an entry twice! I was sitting here typing a post, it was going along fine, then someone upstairs called for me. I tilted my head upward to hear and be heard better, and when I did, my hand grazed the mouse button. What happened next I'm not sure. I only I had to shut down and restart the whole computer. Because I tapped the mouse button!!! GRRR!

Anyway, in brief, I've started school with C again, and am waiting to hear back from an SLP for L. Also Dist.14 wants to meet with me (here they say), and I'm assuming they want to make sure I'm doing school right. After discussion with several other homeschoolers, I've decided I will give them one meeting if they absolutely have to have it, at their office, and not much more. One lady that also has had interference with Social Services, said she took such a huge basket of things with her that they are pretty much leaving her alone now.

C turns 7 on Wed. So hard for me to believe my first baby is growing up so quickly. I've heard so many people say how quickly it goes by, but I'm starting to grasp the reality of that.

Dh has had a couple of snow days lately, so it's been nice to have extra time with him home. He takes the kids on the snowmobile, and they love it. They're calling for more snow this week. And very cold temps. I think we already have more snow this year than we did all last year. So it took a bit to get going, but now it's definitely here. Uh, where did the global warming go?

Have a great day!

In my mind

I'm a great blogger. But actually taking the time to do it - yikes. Doesn't happen much.

So what's up with us lately? Well, we had Christmas, New Year's, I turned 30, etc. Cole's 7th b-day is coming up on the 24th. That's crazy! How did that many years go by so quickly?

This week our excitement has come in the form of colds! All the kidlings have gotten one, and we're debating whether we take them to the dr. I don't normally do much for colds or flu except the usual fluids and rest therapy, but today I knew Luke needed help. He's been prone to bronchiolitis when he gets a cold. His puffer is out, and expired, and he was struggling with breathing. So off we went. I felt bad not getting everyone checked out as they're all coughing a lot, but one at a time. No one else is struggling like he was. Anyway, a dose of ventilin at the hospital and two prescriptions later and it looks like we're on the road to recovery.

I'm not feeling great. Drs' are both suggesting the pain I've been having is ligament related, but it just feels wrong. I have some other pains that feel exactly like they describe for ligament pain and stretching, but this other pain is something else. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm concerned it might be something like gall bladder or appendicitis.

Winter is wonky this year. We've had maybe three snowfalls, but not a real "storm". Hoping for temperatures to stay down now for a couple of months so we can get some snow and do some snowmobiling!

In-laws gave us "saloon doors" for our laundry room. We haven't gotten them yet, but I'm anxious for them to be ready. Will be nice to block the view into my nasty laundry room!

Am wishing I could get some painting done around here, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon. Well, it will give me more time to plan exactly what I'm looking for in each room.

That's about it for now. Hopefully I'll keep this up better.
